My Prowling Heart

Our hearts are ever on the PROWL...

Just like a lion on the prowl for just the right hunt to satisfy what his heart says he needs...

Everything we do, say, plan, think and dream says something about our heart.

And our hearts are ever on the PROWL...

...to be satisfied. ...to be loved and to love.

God designed us to love and be loved.

Though our Creator hard-wired us with such profound love capacity, He also hard-wired us to only be completely satisfied with: Himself and His Word

And yet, what do we find ourselves doing day after day, hour after hour?

We allow our hearts to PROWL...

Our Divine Design to love and be loved gets skewed in such a way that we hungrily search among the “created,” the what and the who, to give us what our hearts were wired to long for:

Peace

Identity

Value

Belonging

Security

Joy

Contentment

1 John 4:9-10 says...

This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us first by sending his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they've done to our relationship with God.

Sin, our deliberate rebellion against our God-given design, has created such a prowling heart.

We so often think we know better.

We so often rationalize that our ideas are better.

We so often believe that something else or someone else besides our Designer will give us what only He and His Word can give us completely: A heart loved perfectly and completely by Him, which in turn, gives us the capacity to love Him and be wholly satisfied.

1 John 4:13-16 says...

This is how we know we're living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us: He's given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. Also, we've seen for ourselves and continue to say openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world. Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God's Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God. We know it so well, we've embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God.

To Be Loved, to Love

God is love. He loves us first, which in turn, grants us the capacity to love Him in return. When we take up permanent residence in our God-given design to be loved and to love, we find our Heart-PROWLING lessens. And our Heart-PEACE deepens.

Notice that our Heart-Peace deepens and our Heart-Prowling lessens.

Our hearts will always be naturally inclined “to prowl,” as we walk this present earth: looking for other things/people to satisfy our hearts which only God & His Word can do.

But, the key words from the 1 John 4 passage are:

  • living steadily, deeply in him, and he in us

  • participating continuously in an intimate relationship with God

*The more we...

...allow His love and His Truth be our only point of reference,

...admit to God how we have been depending on ourselves, our reasoning, our strength, our resources to figure everything out

...acknowledge the Truth of our God-given design that our hearts can only be satisfied fully in Him,

...align ourselves to His design, trusting Him satisfy, secure and supply all we will ever need...

The DEEPER our Heart-Peace will become and the lesser our Heart-Prowl will be.
